Why did Hugh Hefner's daughter attend Brandies University?

I have read that Hugh came from a Methodist family, so why did his daughter, Christie Hefner, attend a Jewish university? She also ended up marrying a Jewish man (William Marovitz). Was her mother Jewish? Is Hugh?
